Editorial Without Words – Call for Photos

10 March 2020 17:06 | Patrick Smith

Fifty years ago this June, photographer Randy Dieter snapped the image of Shriner Al Hortman carrying young Shriners Hospitals' patient Bobbi Jo Wright, which went on to become our iconic Editorial Without Words. It inspired our Shriners Hospitals for Children logo, and statues based on the image (sometimes referred to as the Silent Messenger) stand outside temples and Shriners Hospitals for Children locations.

A Special Invitation for You

A special celebration of this anniversary is planned for the 2020 Imperial Session in Kansas City, Missouri. Be a part of it by sending in your pictures of the statue and/or your thoughts about what the Editorial Without Words means to you.

What to Send

  • Photographs of the statue nearest you
  • Photographs of groups of people with the statue
  • Selfies with the statue
  • One to three sentences about what the Editorial Without Words means to you or what you feel when you see the iconic statue

Photographs should be high-resolution whenever possible. Please send photos as attachments, rather than copying and pasting into the email or onto a document.

Please include the names of everyone in your photo. Names won’t be published but are necessary for internal use only.*
